Active listening improves the quality of communication by attentively listening while withholding judgment and advice. Active listeners build trust, demonstrate concern, and show understanding. The active listening strategies improve the quality of exchange of information between two individuals (Back et al., 2019). Friendliness is vital in the communication process. It involves putting up a warm approach, respect, and avoiding hostility. For example, smiling demonstrates friendliness and approachable character (Back et al., 2019). Confidence is used to express ideas clearly and effectively. It involves maintaining eye contact, speaking from the heart, and maintaining a clear and stable tone.
Sharing feedback is an effective approach to enhancing communication. People share information to demonstrate they understand information from other people. I learned the role of sharing positive feedback without undermining the opinion of another person. I will avoid negative feedback that can undermine the quality of the communication process. Feedback is effective in demonstrating respect (Cobb et al., 2019). Respect is effective in demonstrating concern for the other person sharing the information (Cobb et al., 2019). For example, even if a person does not agree with the ideas of another individual, they should not use rude words. Respect is evident from the choice of words and the communication tone. Empathy is effective in improving the quality of communication (Cobb et al., 2019). Empathy involves recognizing the emotions and perspectives of other people. Communication skills and strategies are vital in enhancing the quality of sharing.
Communication theories improve the quality of sharing information among individuals. The lessons on communication theories were vital in eliminating the challenges of communication (Meng & Qi, 2018). The theories explain interpersonal and intrapersonal communication. Individuals should take care of the different perspectives of communication. For example, body language, facial communication, and verbal words can be used to share information (Meng & Qi, 2018).
I will use the information on communication skills, strategies, and theories to improve my communication. For example, I need to improve my inability to listen to other people. Active listening will help me to build trust. I will learn how to overcome communication conflicts. In a world that requires cultural competency, I will need to improve my communication despite the cultural barriers. Overcoming gender and cultural barriers to communication is vital in generating positive results (Meng & Qi, 2018). The strategies are effective in eliminating physiological and physical barriers to communication.
Communication is a process that involves strategies and skills for effective sharing. Individuals have to observe various concepts including active listening, friendliness, confidence, sharing feedback, empathy, and respect. Learning the concepts will boost my capacity to share information and provide constructive feedback. It will enhance my knowledge in overcoming the challenges of communicating such as active listening and providing quality feedback.
