\nMaterials Needed
\nStudents can use PowerPoint (preferred) or other compatible slide presentation software.
\nDescription
\nStudents prepare a professional presentation describing a species and its problems. The presentation can be an especially useful format for presenting colorful pictures and graphs along with text. It is important that students do not simply paste the internet images to the presentation.
\nComponents of Activity
\nThe presentation needs to include information about the species and its problems including:
\n1. \tSummary of the Problem- 4 pts
\nWhat is the nature of the problem associated with your species? Is it facing extinction? Is its habitat being destroyed? What is the issue of concern?
\n2. \tEcological Description of the Organism \u2013 4 pts
\nThis part should include information about its habitat preferences, its ecological niche, its life history, ecological relationships with other species, and other such material that familiarizes the viewer with its basic biological and ecological nature.
\n3. \tHistory of the Problem- 4 pts
\nAt what point did the problem begin? What causes triggered the onset of the problem? Has the situation become progressively worse or better? Why? What has led to the current situation?
\n4. \tPreferred Solutions \u2013 4 pts
\nWhat solutions to the problem have been proposed? What solutions would you propose? What changes in the environment, in laws, etc., would have to take place to alleviate the problem? Have any solutions been put in motion? Are they working? What are the prospects for future success?
\n5. \tA Graph- 5 pts
\nInclude a graph of some aspect of the species and its problems. You may have to create your own graph from the data you obtain.
\n6. \tReference Citations \u2013 4 pts
\nInclude a complete citation of each reference you use in creating your poster.
\n7. \tOther Considerations
