The healthcare industry is constantly evolving, and healthcare professionals must keep their knowledge and skills updated to ensure the quality treatment of patients. In most healthcare institutions, favorable conditions have been created for continuous learning through the implementation of CPD programs. In this paper, the importance of CPD in healthcare and the various strategies that healthcare professionals can use to plan and update their knowledge and skills will be discussed.

The Importance of CPD in Healthcare
The role of CPD leaders in healthcare institutions cannot be underestimated as they collect information and statistics about basic skills and shortage of knowledge, the latest trends for training, and help coordinate and balance educational programs for healthcare professionals. According to Mlambo et al. (2021), “nurses engage in continuing education by participating in professional development that is relevant to their areas of practice” (p. 62). In most countries, participation in CPD programs is mandatory for all nurses,
and it is also a requirement for license continuation. This is because continuous learning helps healthcare professionals to stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in their field and improves the quality of patient care.

Healthcare professionals can benefit from narrow-focused training that improves their specific skills, as well as from encouragement of general skills that improve their critical thinking and decision-making abilities.
