There are various methods for treating diabetes, many of which include some form of drug therapy. The type of diabetes as well as the patient’s behavior factors will impact treatment recommendations.

Juvenile diabetes, also known as type 1 diabetes, occurs in children and young adults and is often diagnosed before the age of 20.

One type of drug used to treat type 2 diabetes is metformin, which belongs to the biguanide class of drugs.
