Environmental health is the area of public health that deals with the physical, chemical, and biological factors that affect our well-being. Air Quality

Environmental health organizations can improve air quality by promoting clean energy sources, reducing emissions from vehicles and industries, monitoring air pollution levels, and raising awareness about the health impacts of air pollution. For example, the Clean Air Act of 1970 in the United States established national standards for air quality and regulated harmful emissions from various sources. The act has been credited with preventing millions of premature deaths and illnesses from air pollution over the past five decades.

Water Quality
Water quality is another crucial environmental determinant of health, as it affects our hydration, digestion, nutrition, and immunity. Safe and sufficient water is essential for drinking, cooking, washing, and growing food. However, contaminated water can transmit diseases such as diarrhea, cholera, typhoid, hepatitis A, and schistosomiasis. According to the WHO, more than 2 billion people lack access to safely managed drinking water services, and more than 4 billion people lack access to safely managed sanitation services.

Environmental health organizations can improve water quality by ensuring access to clean water and sanitation for all, preventing water pollution from agricultural runoff, industrial waste, and human sewage, promoting water conservation and efficiency, and supporting integrated water resources management. For example, the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC) is a global organization that works to improve access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) for the most marginalized and vulnerable populations.
