Discussion 1:
The topic I have chosen for the Week 8 PowerPoint presentation is “Telehealth Technology.” Telehealth is the use of electronic information and telecommunications technologies to support and promote long-distance clinical health care, patient and professional health-related education, public health, and health administration. Telehealth technology is an essential tool in healthcare that can improve access to healthcare services, reduce healthcare costs, and improve the quality of care for patients. It has become increasingly important in recent years, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic when face-to-face healthcare visits have been limited.

According to a study by Bashshur, Shannon, and Krupinski (2019), telehealth technology has been shown to improve access to care and reduce healthcare costs, especially for patients in rural and underserved areas. The study found that telehealth technology can reduce hospital admissions, emergency department visits, and length of stay in the hospital. Furthermore, telehealth technology can improve patient outcomes and satisfaction with care. This is why it is important for nursing and healthcare professionals to be knowledgeable about telehealth technology and its benefits.

Discussion 2:
Two takeaways that I learned from the “Issues and Trends in Nursing” course that might be helpful for my future practice as a professional nurse are:

The importance of evidence-based practice (EBP): Evidence-based practice involves the use of current evidence to guide clinical decision-making. It is essential for nurses to be knowledgeable about EBP because it ensures that they provide the best possible care for their patients. EBP helps nurses to provide safe and effective care, improve patient outcomes, and reduce healthcare costs. In my future practice, I will use EBP to ensure that I provide the best possible care for my patients.

The importance of patient-centered care: Patient-centered care involves putting the patient at the center of care and involving them in the decision-making process. It is important for nurses to provide patient-centered care because it improves patient outcomes and satisfaction with care. In my future practice, I will strive to provide patient-centered care by involving my patients in the decision-making process and considering their individual needs and preferences.
