Legislative policies and regulations in health and nursing informatics play a critical role in ensuring the privacy, security, and accuracy of patient data. These policies and regulations are put in place to ensure that healthcare providers use electronic health records (EHRs) in a meaningful way, protecting patient privacy and ensuring the accuracy of patient data. Nurses need to have a thorough understanding of the laws and regulations governing health and nursing informatics to ensure compliance.

Create fact sheets for health and nursing informatics:
Fact sheets for health and nursing informatics provide a summary of key information related to legislative policies and regulations. They can be used to help healthcare providers stay informed about changes in laws and regulations, and to ensure compliance. Fact sheets should be concise, easy to read, and provide clear and accurate information.

Analyze the impact of legislative policies and regulations for clinical care, patient/provider interactions, and workflows:
Legislative policies and regulations have a significant impact on clinical care, patient/provider interactions, and workflows. For example, the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act incentivized healthcare providers to adopt EHRs and use them in a meaningful way. This has resulted in more accurate and accessible patient data, improved patient safety, and increased efficiency in healthcare delivery. However, healthcare providers must also comply with regulations related to patient privacy and data security, which can impact workflows and patient/provider interactions.

Evaluate healthcare organizational policies and procedures to address legislative policies and regulations:
Healthcare organizations must have policies and procedures in place to ensure compliance with legislative policies and regulations. Nurses can play a critical role in evaluating these policies and procedures to ensure they are effective and meet the needs of patients and healthcare providers. Inclusion of Nurses in the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) can help ensure that the policies and procedures are user-friendly and align with clinical workflows. Additionally, nurses can provide input on how policies and procedures can be improved to better support patient care.
