According to Stanford professor, Carol Dweck, there are two types of mindsets: fixed mindsets and growth mindsets. A fixed mindset describes people who see their qualities as fixed traits that cannot change while a growth mindset is based on the belief that your basic qualities are things that you can cultivate through your efforts, your strategies, and help from others.

Part 1:
1. Open Word, and create a blank document.

2. Read and Review: Text Basics. (You may choose to watch the video and/or read the instructions and/or do the Challenge Document at the end for practice)
3. Copy and paste the following statements below from this document into your document using the skills found in the Text Basics video.

4. To complete the assignment, read each statement that you have just copied and pasted into your Word Document and decide whether you mostly agree with it or mostly disagree with it. In your document, insert the word “Agree” or “Disagree” after each statement.

PART 1: (Technical)

1. Read and Review: Formatting Text Links to an external site.

2. Open up your Assignment 1.1 word document.

3. At the top of your document type: “Survey: my mindset” (Do not include the quotation marks)

o Choose a font size between 14 and 24. (These are the recommended sizes for document subtitles.)
o Choose a font that is easily readable and looks professional. (Arial is easy to read in documents).
o Bold the title.
o Left Justify.
4. Make the following changes to the survey statements that you previously inserted. Make that section:
o Sentence Case

5. Change the color of the words “Disagree or Agree” from black to a color of your choice.
6. Bullet the statements.

9. Create a list of 2 bulleted items. The first one is titled “Fixed Mindset Reaction:” and the second one is titled “Growth Mindset Reaction:” (Do not include the quotation marks)

11. Under the Growth Mindset Reaction subtitle, write 4 sentences describing how you with a Growth Mindset would react and think and cope with the scenario. Put that underneath the Growth Mindset Reaction title. You may need to do a little more research online to discover more about fixed and growth mindsets.

o Choose a font size between 14 and 24.
o Choose a font that is easily readable and looks professional.
o Choose your justification.
12. Save your document calling it Assignment 1.2 plus your last name. Example: Assignment1.2Jones

8. Compare and contrast the 2 videos above and then write a summary of the 2 videos in the Overview section. Specifically address the following question: How does an understanding of the brain set me up for lifelong success?
