According to Stanford professor, Carol Dweck, there are two types of mindsets: fixed mindsets and growth mindsets. A fixed mindset describes people who see their qualities as fixed traits that cannot change while a growth mindset is based on the belief that your basic qualities are things that you can cultivate through your efforts, your strategies, and help from others.
ASSIGNMENT: Word 1.1

Part 1:
1. Open Word, and create a blank document.

2. Read and Review: Text Basics. (You may choose to watch the video and/or read the instructions and/or do the Challenge Document at the end for practice)
3. Copy and paste the following statements below from this document into your document using the skills found in the Text Basics video.

STATEMENT 1: YOUR INTELLIGENCE IS SOMETHING VERY BASIC ABOUT YOU THAT CAN’T CHANGE VERY MUCH.

Part 2:

4. To complete the assignment, read each statement that you have just copied and pasted into your Word Document and decide whether you mostly agree with it or mostly disagree with it. In your document, insert the word “Agree” or “Disagree” after each statement.
5. Save your document to your computer as Assignment1.1+last name. Example: Assignment1.1Jones

PART 1: (Technical)

1. Read and Review: Formatting Text Links to an external site.

2. Open up your Assignment 1.1 word document.

3. At the top of your document type: “Survey: my mindset” (Do not include the quotation marks)

o Choose a font size between 14 and 24. (These are the recommended sizes for document subtitles.)
o Choose a font that is easily readable and looks professional. (Arial is easy to read in documents).
o Bold the title.
o Left Justify.
4. Make the following changes to the survey statements that you previously inserted. Make that section:
o Sentence Case
o Choose a font size between 10 and 12. (These are the recommended sizes for document text)
o Choose a font that is easily readable and looks professional.
o Left Justify
5. Change the color of the words “Disagree or Agree” from black to a color of your choice.
6. Bullet the statements.

7. In the document, underneath the survey questions, type the following word: “Scenario:” (without quotation marks). Match your formatting to the formatting you did in Step 3.

8. Underneath the Scenario title, copy and paste into your document the paragraph below:
“One day, you go to your favorite class. It is the one that is really important to you. The professor returns your midterm paper. You have a C. You are quite disappointed. You leave class so that you can get to work and on the way, you discover that you left your mandatory work uniform at home.”

o Choose a font size between 10 and 12.
o Choose a font that is easily readable and looks professional.
o Choose an appropriate justification.
o Italicize the paragraph.

9. Create a list of 2 bulleted items. The first one is titled “Fixed Mindset Reaction:” and the second one is titled “Growth Mindset Reaction:” (Do not include the quotation marks)

o Each subtitle should be Left Justified.

PART 2: (Analytical)
10. Under the Fixed Mindset Reaction subtitle, write 4 sentences describing how you with a Fixed Mindset would react and think and cope with the scenario. You may need to do a little more research online to discover more about fixed and growth mindsets.

o Choose a font size between 14 and 24.
o Choose a font that is easily readable and looks professional.
o Choose your justification.
11. Under the Growth Mindset Reaction subtitle, write 4 sentences describing how you with a Growth Mindset would react and think and cope with the scenario. Put that underneath the Growth Mindset Reaction title. You may need to do a little more research online to discover more about fixed and growth mindsets.

o Choose a font size between 14 and 24.
o Choose a font that is easily readable and looks professional.
o Choose your justification.
12. Save your document calling it Assignment 1.2 plus your last name. Example: Assignment1.2Jones

Part 1: (Technical)

2. Insert a Header into your document which says “An Analysis of the My Mindset” (Do not include the quotation marks).
• Instructions (if needed): Headers and Footers
• Choose a Header option (Recommendation: Banded).
• Choose a font size between 18 and 30. (These are the recommended sizes for document headers).
• Choose a font that is easily readable and looks professional.
• Bold the title.
• Choose a justification that makes the document look professional.

3. Insert a Footer into your document which says “Created by [insert your name]” (Do not include the quotation marks or the brackets).
• Choose a Footer option (Recommendation: Facet Even Page).
• Choose a font size between 10 and 12.
• Choose a font that is easily readable and looks professional.

4. Insert the date into the Footer.
HINT: Make sure you close your Header and Footer before you start Step 5.

5. At the very top of your document above “Survey: my mindset”, insert the following section title: “Overview:” (Do not insert the quotation marks).
• Match your formatting to the other formatting you have done for subtitles previously.

Part 2: (Analytical)

6. Watch the following video: LearnStorm Growth Mindset: The Truth About Your Brain.
7. Watch the following video: The Most Powerful Mindset for Success.
8. Compare and contrast the 2 videos above and then write a summary of the 2 videos in the Overview section. Specifically address the following question: How does an understanding of the brain set me up for lifelong success?
• Instructions, (if needed): Line and Paragraph Spacing
o Your summary MUST be at least 3 paragraphs long with a strong thesis statement.
o Double space.
o Choose a font size between 10 and 12.
o Choose a font that is easily readable and looks professional.
