NURS-FPX4015 – Summer 2025 – Assessment 3 Instructions
For this assessment, you will create your own detailed analysis of a patient from the Sentinel-U simulation. Let’s see your creativity and critical thinking shine through in this part of the assessment.
Your work should organize content with clear purpose/goals and with relevant and evidence-based sources (published within 5 years). Think of your paper as telling a clear, cohesive story about your patient’s diagnosis, backed by solid research to demonstrate your competency.
Your assessment submission will be assessed on the following criteria. I’ve laid out these points to guide you, ensuring you know exactly what we’re looking for as you work.
- Diagnosis: Describe a mental health diagnosis. Your goal here is to demonstrate a deep understanding of the diagnostic process from start to finish. The diagnosis should be accurate and supported by relevant and evidence-based sources. It’s crucial to connect what you’ve learned in your coursework to the practical scenario presented in the simulation.
- Make sure that the diagnosis is accurate and includes specific symptoms or criteria that support the diagnosis. Connecting the specific patient symptoms from the simulation to the official diagnostic criteria is a key skill you’re developing here.
- Ensure you have downloaded the completed Sentinel-U simulation report showing the patient you selected. This report is the foundation of your entire assessment, so keep it handy.
- Concept Map: Create a concept map that outlines the key concepts related to the chosen diagnosis, including risk factors, signs and symptoms, diagnostic procedures, medications, complications, nursing diagnoses, and nursing interventions. This map is your chance to visually connect all the dots in your patient’s plan of care. A strong concept map can make complex patient information much easier to understand.
- Make sure that your use of evidence to support the concept map is explicit and clearly linked to specific nodes or connections within your map. We want to see exactly how your research informs each part of the map, from risk factors to interventions, showing a direct line between evidence and practice.
