Topic 4 Purpose Plan: Academic, Spiritual, & Career Plan

For this assignment, you will answer a series of questions designed to help you find and plan your purpose. These questions are broken into an Academic Plan, a Spiritual Plan, and a Career Plan. Use the attached document titled “Purpose Plan” to complete the assignment.

This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

This benchmark assignment assesses the following general education competencies:

Academic Plan
Clarify your academic interests and goals. What subjects excite you? What skills do you want to develop? Consider potential majors and how they align with your strengths, values, and long-term vision. You may wish to research growing career fields to help determine areas of study (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2022). Also explore requirements for graduate/professional programs if applicable.
Once you’ve identified potential majors, map out a course schedule. Be sure to fulfill general education and prerequisite requirements while leaving flexibility for potential changes. Don’t forget to balance academics with extracurricular activities and well-being (National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, 2019).
Spiritual Plan
Reflect on your core beliefs and what gives your life meaning and purpose. Do you wish to develop existing spiritual practices or explore new ones? Consider joining a student religious group, volunteering for a cause you care about, spending time in nature, journaling, or meditating (Duke University, n.d.). Nurturing your spirituality will help sustain you through challenges.
Career Plan
Research careers that align with your strengths, interests, and values. Explore occupational outlooks using the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook (2022). Conduct informational interviews with professionals in fields you’re considering. Complete internships or volunteer work for hands-on experience.
Develop short and long-term goals with action plans and timelines. Connect with your university’s career center for assistance with resumes, cover letters, interview skills, and job/internship searching. Join professional associations and networks in your industry. Maintain an up-to-date LinkedIn profile.
