However, the availability and accessibility of palliative care services vary widely across healthcare settings, especially in community hospitals. This research program aims to develop a comprehensive palliative care program for cancer patients in a community hospital setting to address these challenges and improve patient outcomes.

Objectives:

To review the literature on best practices in palliative care for cancer patients in community hospital settings.
To assess the current state of palliative care services for cancer patients in a target community hospital and identify gaps in service provision.
To develop a comprehensive palliative care program for cancer patients in the target community hospital based on best practices and identified gaps in service provision.
To pilot test the program and evaluate its effectiveness in improving patient outcomes and satisfaction with care.
To disseminate the findings and program model to other community hospitals and healthcare providers.
Methodology:

A systematic review of the literature will be conducted to identify best practices in palliative care for cancer patients in community hospital settings.
A needs assessment survey will be conducted among healthcare providers and cancer patients in the target community hospital to identify gaps in service provision and areas for improvement.
A multidisciplinary team of healthcare providers, including physicians, nurses, social workers, and chaplains, will develop a comprehensive palliative care program for cancer patients in the target community hospital based on the literature review and needs assessment findings.
The program will be pilot tested with a small group of cancer patients, and their outcomes and satisfaction with care will be evaluated using validated instruments.
The program model and findings will be disseminated through publications, presentations, and workshops at local, regional, and national conferences.
