Elements of Gynecologic Historyer’s
Number of sources: 3
Paper instructions:
This assignment from the week 1 on the script sent Sunday night ,patient created. If I need to send the information to review , let me know.

Post your definition of the elements of a gynecologic history and an explanation of potential screenings you would recommend. Be specific and provide examples. Also, identify the health maintenance guideline questions you might need to consider when conducting a patient assessment. Include any additional information related to LGBTQ+ individuals. (Note: Your post should be at least 2-3 paragraphs).

Development of gynecologic patient histories requires practitioners to recognize the various elements that are necessary to construct a history that is accurate and relevant. This effort requires consideration of the chief complaint and multiple other elements, including effective communication with various populations including those in the LGBTQ+ community, to ensure a productive screening and subsequent examination.

This Discussion will help you finalize the Part 2 section of your Module 1 Assignment.

For this Discussion, you will explore the appropriate elements of a complete gynecologic history. You also will consider the appropriate questions to pose in a patient assessment.

To prepare:

As you finalize your Module 1 Assignment for this week, consider the following questions in preparation for your Discussion:

What other things do you need to consider for your patient? Think about considerations for LGBTQ+ individuals as well.
What health maintenance guidelines might be needed for follow-up (i.e., bone density test, Gardasil vaccine, shingles, etc.)?
What questions would you consider in your patient’s assessment? For example
What is your patient’s living situation?
Do they have stairs?
Do they live by themselves?
Do they have a working refrigerator?

The elements of a gynecologic history include:

Chief complaint: The reason for the patient’s visit.
Menstrual history: This includes information about the patient’s age at menarche, cycle length and regularity, amount of bleeding, and any pain or other symptoms associated with menstruation.
Obstetric history: This includes information about the number of pregnancies, the outcomes of those pregnancies, and any complications.
Sexual history: This includes information about the patient’s sexual activity, including the number of partners, the use of protection, and any history of sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Reproductive health history: This includes information about the patient’s family history of gynecologic cancers, any previous gynecologic surgeries or procedures, and any current gynecologic symptoms.
Social history: This includes information about the patient’s lifestyle, including her occupation, her smoking and drinking habits, and her use of recreational drugs.
Potential screenings that a gynecologist may recommend include:

Pap smear: A Pap smear is a test that screens for cervical cancer. It is recommended that women get a Pap smear every three years starting at age 21.
Pelvic exam: A pelvic exam is a physical exam of the female reproductive organs. It is used to check for any abnormalities, such as tumors, cysts, or infections.
Breast exam: A breast exam is a physical exam of the breasts. It is used to check for any abnormalities, such as lumps, masses, or changes in skin texture.
STI testing: STI testing is recommended for all sexually active individuals. STIs can be asymptomatic, so it is important to get tested even if you do not have any symptoms.
Health maintenance guidelines that may be needed for follow-up include:

Bone density test: A bone density test is used to measure the amount of bone mineral density in the body. It is recommended for women over the age of 65 and for women at risk for osteoporosis.
Gardasil vaccine: Gardasil is a vaccine that protects against four types of human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV is a sexually transmitted infection that can cause cervical cancer, genital warts, and other types of cancer. The Gardasil vaccine is recommended for girls and boys starting at age 11 or 12.
Shingles vaccine: Shingles is a viral infection that causes a painful rash. The shingles vaccine is recommended for adults over the age of 60.
When conducting a patient assessment, it is important to consider the patient’s individual needs and circumstances. For example, a patient who lives in a rural area may have different health care needs than a patient who lives in a city. It is also important to consider the patient’s cultural background and beliefs. For example, a patient who is from a culture that does not value female sexuality may be less likely to discuss her sexual history with her doctor.

In addition to the general elements of a gynecologic history, there are some additional considerations for LGBTQ+ individuals. For example, LGBTQ+ individuals may be more likely to experience sexual violence or harassment, and they may be less likely to have access to health care. It is important to ask LGBTQ+ individuals about their sexual orientation and gender identity, and to be sensitive to their needs and concerns.

By taking the time to gather a complete and accurate gynecologic history, gynecologists can provide their patients with the best possible care.
