However, these activities can have negative environmental consequences, such as habitat destruction and pollution (Akpan et al., 2016). Additionally, coastal development, driven by urbanization and tourism, can lead to habitat alteration, increased pollution, and conflicts with other marine uses (Douvere, 2016).

These competing uses, coupled with the growing impacts of climate change, necessitate a coordinated and integrated approach to manage West Africa’s marine space. MSP offers a framework for achieving this by:
